- I just want to see the photo. Do I have to convert it?
- No, and that is the point of this page. Most converters make you download something before you can find out what is in the file.
- Is anything saved or uploaded?
- Neither. The photo is decoded in memory to be drawn on screen, and it is gone when you close the tab. There is no upload, no account and no history.
- Why does Windows show a grey box instead of my photo?
- Because that PC is missing the piece of Windows that reads HEIC. Many now have it — recent Windows 11 installs often open these files without being told to — but plenty do not, and the file is fine either way. Convert it to JPG and it will open anywhere; opening a HEIC file covers what I measured on each system.
- Can I see the photo details?
- Yes. Open a photo full screen and press Details: the date it was taken, the camera and lens, the exposure settings, and the location if the photo carries one. Coordinates are shown as text — opening a map is a separate click, because that is the one action that would send anything anywhere.
